Since the DualShock 4’s reveal and the PS4’s launch, numerous developers have been using the accessory in many different ways. In the case of Assassin’s Creed 4, Ubisoft used the controller’s touchpad to call up the map and, like on a cell phone, scroll through the map with swipe of a finger. With Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition coming out next week, the game’s Executive Producer, Scot Amos, has detailed how you’ll use the device in Lara’s adventure.
By swiping your finger across the DualShock 4’s touchpad, you can tell Lara to light her torch. As we learned earlier, the controller’s light bar will flicker in tune with the torch. Tomb Raider will also use the touchpad to allow players to scroll through the map and pinch and zoom as they please. The speaker will come into play as the output for radio conversations and when Lara reloads her weapon.
Surprisingly enough, Crystal Dynamics has also implemented Sixaxis support into the game. While you’re falling with Lara’s parachute open, you can use the Sixaxis to guide Lara to safety.
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will be available on the PS4 on Tuesday, January 28th.
