We’ve heard reports about a small percentage of PlayStation 4 consoles shipping with defects. The latest rumors surfacing point to an unlikely cause: industrial sabotage. A Foxconn Intern working in Yantai, China has claimed that poor working conditions led employees to issue a silent protest, by breaking PS4 consoles on purpose.
The translated quote from the student was listed as follows English:
Since foxconn are not treating us well, we will not treat ps4 console well. The ps4 console we assemble can be turned on at best
I got a bit different of a result when translating myself:
One such high-end products, this is Sony and Microsoft unite against Apple key step, but unfortunately a small Japanese handed it to Foxconn, Foxconn brought them over to our group of interns North believe that it is wrong, this time it really wrong, Foxconn did not treat us as human beings, we do not see it as a high-end product, in addition to cope or deal with, these products can reboot is our highest expectations, ha ha, etc. ps4 9 月 9 officially listed, it is the Sony losses and the closure of Foxconn day! ! Common pray!
Then there is the text prior to translation, for the DIY folk out there:
This could be an isolated incident of one student causing trouble. This could be a fraud pretending to be a Foxconn employee just to cause a stir. Nobody knows… but it’s an interesting idea to kick around none the less.
Foxconn is no stranger to controversy, just take a look at these Apple related headlines for proof:
- Two killed in Foxconn iPad Plant Explosion
- Foxconn Plants close due to Riots
- Foxconn Employee commits suicide
- Apple attempting to distance itself from Foxconn
Given the nature of the Chinese government, I doubt these reports will become anything more than internet fodder, but it’s something to consider if you’ve been left with a bricked PS4 and have been blaming Sony.
