Sony has released their very first sales predictions for the upcoming PlayStation 4 console. Speaking at the Tokyo Game Show, Sony’s Andrew House said that they expect to sell no less than 5 million PS4 consoles by the end of the Fiscal 2013 year, which ends on March 31, 2014. Yesterday, we heard Andrew House say that Sony is not allowed to fail with the PlayStation 4.
By comparison, Sony sold only 1.8 million PS3 consoles during the same period when it launched back in 2006, so going up to 5 million looks like quite a challenge. Or maybe not: Sony has already sold 1 million PlayStation 4 consoles in pre-orders alone, and demand is still high. Sony lost a ton of money on each PS3 console sold back in 2006, but they are expected to make a profit on each PS4 console they sell on launch.
Last week, analysts speculated that Sony would sell 36 million PS4s by 2018, which seems like a low number, even when taking Sony’s own sales forecast into consideration.
