Gio Corsi named director of new PlayStation Third Party Production team

Sony PS4 revealed 2

Today, Adam Boyes has gone public with news of a new division within Sony called Third Party Production where Gio Corsi has been named as director. Third Party Production aims to bring “more great games on PlayStation platforms, including new IP’s, ports, and localized products”, beginning with the recent announcement of Borderlands 2 for the PlayStation Vita.

Borderlands 2 is being developed by Iron Galaxy Studio for the Vita. They recently released DiveKick, a two-button fighting game with even quirkier rules. This is quite a leap of faith for Sony to ask Iron Galaxy Studio to go from developing a hand-drawn original fighting game IP to one of the bestselling come-from-behind franchises in recent history.

If you could decide the next big third party release for Sony to bring to PS3, PS4, and/or Vita, what would it be?

Wow! Borderlands 2 on the Vita?! Very, very interesting in my perspective. Imagine BF4 on the Vita too. Anything can happen.

    • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

Assassains Creed 4 is too on the ps vita by PS4 remote play.

      • Deezy

Yep. I think that the Vita will come out strong alongside the PS4 alot more when it was sided with the ps3.

        • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

          i think that too.

But can’t wait for the PS4.

    • Ducked

Yeah, Vita really needs 3rd party games like that.

      • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

        Agree.

        • Ducked

          I agree with you agreeing.

  • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

    Good news.

  • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

a free-to-play game called Warface is coming to the xbox 360: http://www.warface.com/xbox/

And wait i tell you…. YOU NEED GOLD EPIC FAIL.

    • Deezy

Yeah… I’m confused. And its not the “I don’t get it” confused but the “It just doesn’t make sense to me at all” confused.

      • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

Xbox one has 1 free-to-play game and that is Project Spark and PS4 have more free-to-play games. Killer Instinct is a demo of the full game rare said it’s not free-to-play.

And world of tanks on xbox 360 need gold.

I’m not buying an Windows 8 tablet.. I’m buying an iPad 5 when it comes out for the PlayStation app etc. Microsoft wants money.

        • Deezy

Sadly, that’s what it came down to for MS. I mean I can understand them as a company to multitask on numerous projects and keeping them stable. I can understand that every project is cost effective and when it finishes the product is expensive.

What I don’t get is why restrict the customers approx 90% of its features inside the product, forcing them to dig deeper in their pockets just to get the true, full experience of the product. Remember, Microsoft spent hundred of millions of dollars to get 1 million servers for the Xbone and office 365, but it doesn’t make it right to financially punish their customers.

One thing for certain is that MS bit alot more than they can chew and they are still trying to prove that what they are doing will work… emphasis on the word will.

          • bizzy gie

Exactly. If I’m paying half a thousand dollars for something, it needs to provide half a gran worth of entertainment then if I want extra, I pay extra.

Not pay $500 for a brick in which Gold is required for everything.

That means Xbox One is really $560 not $500.

          • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

PS4 have only multiplayer and cloud on the paywall.

xbox one has all on the paywall. All features requires gold!

          • KosmoCrisis

Apples to Apples: PS4 with the PlayStation camera, PS Plus, and a custom made power brick constructed from cardboard and spray painted = $520 (I think spray paint is around $10.

          • bizzy gie

            Ha! Ha!

Good thing the PS4 camera is optional and PS+ is only required for multiplayer for paid games and nothing else.

          • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

I like to see how you laugh in real life…

          • ItzameyaToad

See this is one of the biggest reasons the Xbox One isn’t on my radar, even though I am a long time Xbox 360 supporter. I mean it was understandable to require gold on certain features aside from Multiplayer on Xbox 360 because you couldn’t get certain thing’s on any other home console such as Party chat. But now it is completely ridiculous that Microsoft is requiring Gold for party chat, free to play, Netflix etc. Sony now offers for free what Microsoft charges you to access. I think people who want Xbox One need to stop bitching about the Kinect and start demanding more features for those that don’t want to pay for Gold.

  • rsco6969

Total wipeout!! Not the game lol that is the announcer saying what Sony has done to Microsoft.

  • TomDobo

Getting a vita just for borderlands 2 thats all

The PS4 camera supports navigational voice commands and facial recognition.

    • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

Kinect aka spycam is $200… if xbox one was 399 it was overpriced the PS4 hardware is better.

      • Clel

The Kinect 2 is $100. And for all this ‘ooh NSA gonna spy on us!’ crap, you carry around iPhones and laptops and log onto the Internet everywhere you go anyways, so tbh the Kinect isn’t such amazing spyware after all.

        • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

Seems like….. You’re an xbox fanboy?

          • Ducked

            No, he’s Nintendo.

          • http://www.us.playstation.com/ HyperTallih

But he supports the xbox done..

          • Ducked

How come Xbox wasn’t in the Last of Us? :)

          • Clel

Well, I have a couple things to say to that.

            1. Just because I defend something doesn’t mean I support it. Kind of like, I might not enjoy lentil soup, but I WILL defend it if someone says ‘Lentil soup will give you cancer if you eat it.’
            2. Am I really a blind fanboy if I’m supporting a system?

And does it really matter? Do you really have to dislike someone because they like something that you don’t like? Really? Part of the reason I’m getting tired of the gaming media and its community. People are so quick to hate something, to bash people who like something, to swear an oath to a piece of metal and plastic.

STOP. I just want to play Starcraft and my Nintendo games.

          • sd

            well done. :-)

          • Sorahearts

            don’t say Xbox- WTF “boom”

          • Clel

LOL, I’ve only played the Xbox 360 for about half an hour.

I’m mostly PC, but also Nintendo.

          • Sorahearts

and do you plan on buying PS4?

          • Clel

Sadly, no. I thought about it heavily, though, and decided against it.
The problem is that, while its games ARE incredible, all of those that I’m like ‘woow that’s amazing!’ are multiplats or timed exclusives. I am somewhat unimpressed by the exclusives (especially next to Nintendo’s exclusives), and they don’t really sell the system to me.
I just don’t really see what the PS4 has to offer that a powerful PC doesn’t, other than price. I know I sound like a PC elitist, but that really is my take on it. I wish much happiness to PS4 buyers, but it’s just not for me.

I frequent this site because I’m curious as to what’s going on for the other platforms.

          • Sorahearts

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! WTF “boom” so does this mean you’re gonna be buying Xbox one or not?

          • Clel

Nah, won’t be buying an Xbox One either. The only reason I’d get it would be for Titanfall, but that’s coming to PC anyways XD

          • Sorahearts

thank goodness I nearly blew myself up. and I guess you’re buying that for your PC

          • Deezy

I was once a PC elitist… that was until my laptop couldnt handle those graphics like it used to :(. Well, time to go back to console. My console collection is small… Just a N64 and a PS2 and man I hated Mario but loved Link. If I ever brought a Wii U i would get Zelda and Pikmin games (i know how complicated Pikmin is since Gamecube). I’m getting that PS4 which I haven’t pre ordered yet. LOL

          • Sorahearts

            Dislike! who would do that?

With Fifa 14 so that makes the kinect cheaper

      • bizzy gie

Nope. Fifa is only for European markets because many European countries won’t see Xbox One until next year.

In Europe, Shadow Fall, an extra controller, and the PS4 camera are all offered for the same price as Xbox One which only offers the camera which we’re now realizing isn’t that much better than the PS4 camera.

        • MrLouboy999

Exactly how is it the same price…???

          Taken today from ADVFN:

          Convert Euro to US Dollar
          € 500 = $ 661.3757

          Per Euro to Dollar scale:
          €1=$1.3228

          €5=$6.6138

          €10=$13.2275

          €50=$66.1376

          €100=$132.2751

          €500=$661.3756

          €1000=$1322.7513

          • bizzy gie

Compare kinect with the camera of the Samsung Gelaxy S4 it. Samsung Gelaxy S4 camera have Air Gesture, Smart Scroll, Air view, Smart Stay etc etc. And all that features xbox one doesn’t use of kinect! epic fail.

          • TomDobo

            Galaxy***

        • TomDobo

Im from the UK (Europe) so I’m saying in my point of view PS4 with Killzone and a extra pad and ps eye is £500. Were as the Xbox One (£429) plus an extra pad, Kinect and Fifa 14 is is around £470 so thats £30 cheaper over here for an Xbox bundle. I will be getting a PS4 sometime next year as it has exclusive content for Destiny and Watch Dogs. But as of now I’m happy with what the Xbox One has to offer in terms of games Forza, Dead Rising 3 and Ryse. But when Naughty Dog has finally announced somethin ill buy one straight away.

    • sd

A couple of things missing. The kinect has a higher resolution than the PS eye. While the PS eye is stated as having facial recognition it does not state it has full body recognition like the new kinect.
With regards to the 3D depth tracking you need move for this to work. This is a step back from the kinect as you do not not need a second device to be tracked. This is also a huge negative and a big thumbs up for the kinect. Kinect does not track a controller like move, it tracks your actual body movements. It can track finger movements, head movements, leg movements etc. the PS eye still tracks the move controller. Its not the same thing. It also tracks the glowing light on each controller to determine who each player is. Kinect tracks the actual person.

It does have a larger field of view, but again at a lower resolution.

I get you like to compare everything on the PS4 to the X-1 and I am happy that the camera shows some promise. But it is still in a different league. The biggest issue is still support. The camera on the PS3 and PS2 had awful support. Sony need to turn this around and by making it an optional extra its not that certain they will.

      • bizzy gie

While the PS4 camera may not have 1080p resolution, it’s still higher than 720p.

Two 720p cameras acting as one has to be just as accurate as one 1080p.

PS Eye can track people as well, but Sony still has to sell those Move controllers nobody wants. It can also detect motion.

3D depth tracking tracks people AND controllers.

        • sd

Are you saying that the ps eye camera can track pepole without the move controller? If so why does it need the move controller? (serious question, not a dig) The two 720p cameras working together are presumably the reason it can track 3D depth.

          • Arthur Hughes

Kinect tracks the controllers through Infrared lights, Meaning you dont need that night light on it. This also allows the Kinect to Auto Pair (no pressing buttons on the console and controller) and adjust the profile for the person using the controller. Kinect Tracks 3D depth by bouncing Photons around the room and off the player, Meaning it can be done in any kind of light and extremely fast. The only thing the PSeye Does that kinect cant do is record in 3D. Past that Kinect surpasses Everything we know the PSeye can do.

          • sd

3D is on its way out. People will be more into 4k tv than 3D. Many major broadcasters have pulled the plug on 3D broadcasting. Dont need to say any more about that advantage.

          • Arthur Hughes

I usually love new technology, I have bought 3 TV’s in the last 3 years and not once did i even think about spending the extra money on 3D. The 3D experience has never been quite right and unless something is Specifically made for 3D its down right useless.

          • sd

I own an LG 3d and think it is the best 3D tv to buy. But I am aware that when I watch a 3d movie I am only ever wowed for the first couple of minutes, after that I forget about the 3D. Realistically I don’t see that it really enhances films. 4k tv on the other hand offers greater detail and I will adopt that tech in a year or two.

          • bizzy gie

The lights PS Eye detect are more advanced as PS Eye can make the lights respond to different parts of a game.

The PS Eye can also assign a different task to each camera. Not fathomable on Kinect.

PS Eye also has a larger FOV than Kinect 2 and PS Eye has superior controller interaction.

          • Arthur Hughes

How does it have superior controller interaction?

Also your stupid comments on tasks to different cameras is just dumb, Kinect can do more then 2 things at once with just one camera.

          • bizzy gie

Playroom is a very strong demo of that superior interaction.

It shows off that PS Camera can detect not only the light bar, six-axis motion directions, and touchpad gestures of DS4, but also detects full body movements as the person swiped his hand and the graphic moved in response.

PS Camera can make one camera track people and controllers while the other tracks only movement.

It’s kind of like the 3D depth thing.

Kinect 2 can do a poorer version of it, but the PS Camera version is ultimately better.

          • Arthur Hughes

OMFG you actually believe what your typing.

Using photons to detect depth in a space is not a poorer version of doing it, its actually much more sophisticated technology. The xbox one controller has a Non Obtrusive light on it called infrared making it just as easy to track. Kinect can detect the tiny motions such as slight wrist and hand movements. It can also do all of this in the complete dark.

You still dont seem to understand the 2 things at one time because of 2 cameras is stupid.

Kinect Can do MORE THEN 2 THINGS AT ONE TIME SEE THE WORD MORE IT MEANS MORE THEN 2.

          • bizzy gie

PS Camera still has superior controller interaction, better sense of location in a 3 dimensional world, and dedicated multitasking.

          • Arthur Hughes

you have now reached the level of mega troll. Congratulations you completely ignore all actual facts and just see what you think is right.

          • bizzy gie

Yes. It can, but as I stated before Sony has to sell those Move controllers nobody bought.

Yes. The two cameras also allow PS Eye to assign a different task to each camera and what gives PS Eye a larger FOV.

          • sd

The only thing is that I dont see it working that well. Certainly not without the move controller. If it did sony would surely just sell it without the controller and they also wouldn’t be reliant on the glow lights from the controllers.

Dont get me wrong the lights will have an advantage in some cases. For one I predict that assigning players to the correct controller will be less troublesome than on the xbox. I am not convinced that the xbox wont occassionally get confused and mix players up, certainly at the start. But if sony go for a light colour it is easier to track and less prone to error.

But i still don’t see anything anywhere that puts the actual motion tracking in anywhere near the same league as kinect. If it were they really would ditch the move controller. Also body tracking to locate a player, compared to fine body movements, like finger movements, are two different things.

          • bizzy gie

The Playroom demo shows the PS Camera’s capabilities best.

It uses the light for maximum efficiency.

Sony is going to sell those Move controllers just sitting in stores which why you’ll still need them for motion games.

          • sd

Thanks. I just watched the play room demo. It doesn’t compare in any way to kinect, I was being open minded and genuinely hoping for a kinect rival. The demo makes it look like a slightly enhance version of move and the PS3 camera. It has general body tracking and appears to sense a hand gesture to bash things on screen. This is not the same as the tracking by kinect. Unfortunately I wasnt impressed and it really doesn’t compare for motion tracking based on what is shown. It wouldn’t even compare to kinect one regarding motion tracking from what they have shown in this video. Like I said it looks similiar to what they already have.

          • bizzy gie

Ha! Ha! You weren’t impressed because MS didn’t make it.

You were’t hoping for anything. You’re happy you weren’t impressed.

I’m sorry, but has MS released a similar demo for comparison’s sake? Exactly.

The Playroom demo shows off the PS Camera’s primary focus which is controller interaction not dancing and waving your hands around like an idiot.

Sony hasn’t discussed much about PS Camera and still has more to announce.

The PS3’s PS Eye couldn’t do a fraction of what PS Camera can do.

Keep in mind that much less money and R&D was put into PS Camera than Kinect 2 because Sony is smart enough not rest the fate of their gaming console’s innovation on a f*cking camera!

          • sd

What are you talking about! I wasnt impressed because the video looked like a slightly enhanced version of the old camera with move built into the controller. I wasnt impressed because it doesnt show in any way the same tracking features that you claime it has as the xbox. It can track an arm to bounce a ball across the screen. The ps3 camera could do this.

Unlike you I hope both consoles succeed. i have said this many times to you but I am a multiplatofmr owner. I own a WiiU, I have my X-1 pre-ordered and the minute naughty dog release a game I will buy A PS4. I want it to succeed. I wasnt impressed because the video was lame and the features uninspiring. The kinect does look much better in that it can actually track the slightest movements and translate them into a game. It doesnt simply track a movement to bash an object across a screen.

The problem bizzy is your fanboy nature has made you blind to reality. The PS4 is a damn good console, but the X-1 is also a damn good console. They both have positives and negatives. Kinect and the PS eye are not the same thing and Kinect is in a different league. Show me a game where you can clench your fist and mimick pulling back on a throttle to go faster (kinect sports). Show me a game where you can punch and fight and have the fighting translated to a controller ( fighter within). Show me a game where the room ambience is monitored for sound and if you make a noise the in ingame creatures hear it (DR3). Show me a game where the camera can translate your dance moves into a game without the aid of a move controller (just dance 2014). I could go on but you get the point.

Both consoles will be great but dont be blind and naive. Oh and for a kinect demo on X-1 then look up the games I have mentioned. These are actual games with actual use of the hardware in actual games.

          • bizzy gie

I’m no fanboy. I’m not naive. I’m not blind.

Where’s the PS3’s camera demo for comparision?

            Exactly.
            PS Camera is HD.
            PS Eye isn’t.
PS Camera has the largest FOV of any console camera ever made.
            PS Eye doesn’t.
PS Camera can multitask and track 3D Depth.
            PS Eye can’t.
PS Camera has voice commands and facial recognition.
            PS Eye doesn’t.

            That’s why I didn’t believe you weren’t impressed.

You’re failing to realize that the demo showed off controller interaction. That was the purpose of it. You trying to treat the video like it showed EVERYTHING PS Camera could do. Kinect’s primary focus is motion gaming and a lot useless gimmicks that can be done with a remote.

It’s not about leagues. PS Camera can a lot of stuff Kinect can’t at all.

You just want a Kinect clone.

They’re both cameras with two entirely different purposes. PS Camera surpasses Kinect in controller interaction, 3D depth trackin, FOV, and multitasking.

Kinect surpasses PS Camera in motion gaming, voice commands (which PS Camera supports too along with facial recognition), camera resolution, etc.

Just because they’re both cameras doesn’t mean they do they same thing. Kinect isn’t in a higher league than PS Camera and vice versa.

            They’re two separate devices.

You are so completely clueless its unbelievable.

            Better Controller interaction False
            Better Depth Tracking False
            FOV is a minor difference
Multitasking its to fucking funny that you believe this. I mean seriously you actually believe this?

          • bizzy gie

            1 True
            2 Absolutely True
            3 Ha! Ha! Minor.
4 It has dedicated multitasking which Kinect 2 doesn’t. Better.

you have reached a new level of pathetic fanboy, You may be the dumbest kid on all of the internet

          • bizzy gie

            Yep.

See you on XboxOneDaily arguing some other point I made that I didn’t ask to reply to.

          • Arthur Hughes

You know if you had any kind of intelligence people could have conversations with you, Instead you just make shit up and think people are just going to accept it.

          • bizzy gie

I don’t make anything up. You jist refuse to accept facts that aren’t in Xbox One’s favor, or you dismiss them or you make excuses for them.

          • Arthur Hughes

you really should not use words you don’t understand like “Fact”
