Sony files trademark for PlayStation TV

The PlayStation 4 is coming and while Sony’s latest gaming console is certain to be loaded with tons of unique features and services, the company might possibly have something new waiting in the wings.

The company recently filed a trademark for the name “PlayStation TV,” which makes us wonder what the company could be up to. A couple of years back, Sony released a 24-inch PlayStation specific 3D monitor that allowed multiple to users have a fullscreen viewing experience on the same display when playing a video game. While there was no follow up to this particular product, Sony is incorporating this unique technology into its new line of televisions.

This filing could be the branding for this particular feature, which the company may decide to push during its marketing blitz for the PlayStation 4.

Another possibility is that Sony could be working on some type of media TV streaming service, similar to its Unlimited subscription based music service. We won’t hold our breath waiting for this concept to take form, but it’s definitely worth considering.

As disappointing as it may sound, Sony could very well have filed the trademark simply as a precaution and could be saving it for a rainy day. We’ve reached out to Sony and will update things here if anything turns up.

They could have a Ps4 TV with the Eye built in so we don’t need as much space

Concept: 4K Ultra HD display with PS4 AND PS Eye built in. It’s a random conceptual guess

If they are making PlayStation dedicated TVs, I hope they make the screen bigger.

24″ is hardly bigger than most standard PC monitors.

I actually liked the little 24-inch 3D monitor. Seems great for someone with a small room or in the dorms. I thought it was neat, just overpriced at first.
