Sony is making an extra effort to reach out to female gamers with the PlayStation 4, according to company executive Andrew House. In a recent interview with UK tabloid The Sun, House said that the PlayStation 4 will include new features that will appeal to female as well as male gamers.
However, House points out that Sony isn’t “going down the route of making the console pink of course”, as he puts it. House says Sony is betting on a diverse offering of games and content which will appeal to a broad range of gamers, male and female, of all ages.
House added that it’s about casual games as well, saying:
“The key is getting games developers — who are going to make the next Angry Birds — excited about the PlayStation 4. And they are.”
The PS3 is known for being the most “hardcore” of the three current gen consoles on the market, with the least female gamers. The Wii has always been popular with casual and female gamers, while Microsoft’s Kinect wooed lots of girls into buying an Xbox 360.
