First look at Playstation 4 Controllers and PlayStation Eye Camera [PICTURES]

The doors to the GDC 2013 Expo Floor swung open and we immediately darted to the Sony booth. What welcomed us was an enclosed glass square with four Playstation 4 Wireless Controllers and the Playstation Eye Camera. Although only prototypes (subject to change), they looked absolutely gorgeous, especially with the recently announced light bar.

Here is a small collection of the photos we snagged first hand:

The official names of these devices, as you can see from the tag on the glass bubble (below), are the Playstation 4 Eye Camera and the Wireless Controller for the Playstation 4 (DUALSHOCK 4).

Unfortunately for us (and you), these things were protected like the Holy Grail, so we were unable to get our greasy little hands on the magical PS4 controllers. Beyond this shrine, the Sony booth mostly housed titles for the PS Vita and PS3, so we’re not sure what else we’ll be able to bring you from the GDC trenches, but trust we’ll be trying our best.

The Sony hype train is on a roll and had no planned stops before MS’ big unveil. Sony has the spot light. Hands on means opinions and it’s too early to cast stones.

Hello to PS4DAILY, since you have seen the controller, how are the dimensions of it, is it bigger than the ps3 controller? I am hoping its bulkier and bigger for my hands :P

Good question. Hard to tell because we don’t have objects for comparison. At first glance, I’d say the controller looks a tad bigger but slimmer, if that makes sense.

how can the LED provide immersion in game when you can’t see it because it’s on the other side of the controller facing the TV.
YOu have to tilt the controller upwards to see the colour:/

The light does look cool, although I hope their is a way to turn that feature off to conserve the battery of the controller. Speaking of which, that had better be a charging port under the light!

The touchpad could be cool if you could program it to do different things. For example draw a triangle to instantly start up the internet, a circle to start up nextflix, square for amazon instant, a V to start or exit a game, an M to save your game, tap it to pause.
Say your playing an RPG, different attacks bassed on what you draw on the touchpad instead of having to pause and go into the menu and choose what type of attack and then etc. etc.

WTF I think your confused, Im pretty sure the cameras not recording. The mandatory recording your speaking of is the system recording when you play games just incase you do something cool and want to press the share button. Im pretty sure the system works without that camera eye thing anyways.

but if that was the case why have a camera on the system as well as the controller to record game play? l think it’s recording for marketing purposes like they were talking about a coulpe years ago with TV’s n other stuff…not Sony but in general..

D-pad looks like a huge improvement. Buttons look nice and comfortable. But aesthetically? That first picture that shows the front of it looks pretty bad. I hope they restyle it somewhat, especially the knobby-looking joysticks.

Don’t get me wrong, they look comfortable, and that’s great, but I’d appreciate a sleeker design that’s a little less cluttered. Just my opinion, though, I read a comment here that somebody thought it looked beautiful. To each his own, I guess.

i would like to know games that have open mic like cod, bf4, etc. will it still be a echo sound when I’m using surround sound and not my headset? will i be able to turn the mic down on the ps4 settings? on the ps3 using the eye cam you cant turn the mic level down it stays on level 3.
