Hideo Kojima, the famous creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, recently shared his thoughts on the PlayStation 4. Kojima has been working on Sony’s consoles since the very first PlayStation, and he’ll obviously work on PlayStation 4 games as well.
However, don’t expect pure praise from Kojima. Speaking to Edge Magazine, he said about the PlayStation 4:
“I think it’s great [the PlayStation 4], but it’s nothing special; you could see it coming. It’s the logical evolution of the platform and I think it has to head in that direction.”
He added that he wasn’t surprised by the PlayStation 4 announcement or the features, and that he was eager to see what other developers had in store for the console. Kojima said that he was glad that Sony added all the social features to the console, however, as he put it:
“But just because it has these features doesn’t mean it’s going to be a success. What will really determine whether or not it sells is what titles will be available for the platform.”
Kojima recently wrapped up work on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which is out on the PS3 and Xbox 360. His lat PlayStation exclusive was Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots on the PS3, almost 5 years ago. Rumor has it that Kojima and his team are working on Metal Gear Solid 5 for the PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox console.
