According to the Wall Street Journal, the upcoming PlayStation 4 will be able to stream older PS3 games. Last year, Sony acquired game streaming company Gakai for $380 million, and many have since speculated what Sony would do with the Gakai technology.
Since the PlayStation 4 is rumored to be built using a significantly different architecture than the PS3, backwards compatibility might be an issue. Therefore, a streaming option sounds like the perfect solution: steam PS3 games on the PS4. And in the process, Sony will no doubt make a buck or two.
The PlayStation 4 streaming service might be included in the paid PlayStation Plus subscription, although we wouldn’t be surprised if Sony charges an additional premium to stream PS3 games.
